Make an Easy, Tasty Stuffing

Do you love stuffing (also called dressing), traditionally eaten during the Thanksgiving holiday? I sure do. I grew up loving my mom’s homemade turkey or chicken dressing. That’s the best stuff ever! But, I have also found—created, if you will—another recipe that works great if you’re in a hurry or just want a different flavor. I make this recipe not only on Thanksgiving but also on numerous other occasions throughout the year.

For your Easter dinner, try pairing this stuffing with roasted chicken, turkey, or even ham. It goes great as a side dish or as a replacement for bread. Pair with meat any time of the year—or with meatless meals, such as beans. Treat yourself to stuffing and cranberry sauce for a meal reminiscent of Thanksgiving day.

Ingredients

  • 1 box of instant stuffing
  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • 1/2 stick of butter
  • 1 tbps of butter
  • 1/2 of an onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks of celery, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed (optional)
  • 14 oz of chicken broth
  • giblets from turkey or pieces of turkey/chicken, (optional)

Instructions

  1. Sautee onion, celery, garlic in the one tbs of butter until softened (about ten minutes). As the butter is used up, add small amounts of the chicken broth as needed.
  2. In the meantime, boil the water and butter and add dry stuffing, as per box directions.
  3. After setting off heat for five minutes (as per package instructions), add sauteed mixture to stuffing, along with the rest of chicken broth. Mixture will be much runnier than a boxed stuffing would be. Also, when I have cooked giblets from a turkey, I cook and chop them up to add. I even use the juice from the turkey and use less water or broth to adjust the stuffing recipe. The juice adds so much flavor to an already very tasty instant stuffing!
  4. Place in casserole dish and place in oven.
  5. Cook at 375 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes until browned on top.
  6. If you prefer a drier dressing, leave out 1/2 cup of the water when making stuffing. I personally like it moist! You can also cook it longer to make it less moist and more crusty.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this recipe. It’s extremely tasty! And Mom will love it! Who knew it came from a box?

This reminds me of when my Momma used to make dressing. She put all kinds of goodies in it. I really do not add much to mine as my family just likes the herb seasoned Pepperidge farm without anything but broth and butter. So, that works for me too.

I am pinning this though for those who like to spruce up the dressing

Hoping all is well with you

Angels are on the way ps

This is really useful as I just put my Thanksgiving turkey in the oven and I don't put the stuffing inside. I like to cook it externally. This method that takes ready made items and jazzes them up with extra ingredients is timed perfectly and sounds like a great way to enjoy Thanksgiving all year long. Thank you and Happy T Day.
