Best Tasting K-cups for Keurig Coffee Makers

Why K-cups are Awesome

Americans consume 400 million cups of coffee per day which makes the United States the leading consumer of coffee in the world. It is also the second most traded commodity in the world. How do you drink your coffee? K-cups are changing the coffee drinking landscape as we know it.

K-cups are phenomenal. You get the perfect amount of ground for a cup of coffee. The coffee is stored fresh, protected from sun, protected from drying out. All you do is pop the cup in the cartridge, slide your mug underneath, and hit serve. Seconds later you have a hot cup of coffee and the only clean up is popping out the k-cup and tossing it in the garbage.

My favorite brewer is the Keurig B31 mini. It's smaller and cheaper than the other Keurig models which is great for counter space. The large water reservoir is handy on the other models, but without it you don't have water sitting around overnight waiting to be used which helps things stay cleaner.

I've tried so many of these k-cups. They aren't all winners so let me help you through the clutter and allow me to list my favorite. Enjoy!

1. Donut Shop

This is the #1 best selling coffee on Amazon and for good reason. This roast is rich, smooth, and bold without being bitter. Some other K-cups you will enjoy a few at the start and then start to fade. The Donut Shop K-cup is a staple that remains. Sure you will want to sample some others here and there but you will always want to have these on hand for a great cup of joe at a buttons press away.

2. Caribou Coffee Blend

Coming in at number two, this coffee is the smoothest of my entire list. Caribou blend is the perfect blend, delicious with milk, absolutely no bitterness, no acidity. This coffee is the perfect medium roast that you must try. The brand does have some extra products but the basic Caribou blend is the one they really got right.

3. Donut House - Chocolate Glazed Donut

This coffee is a light roast. If you are looking for a strong chocolate flavor this isn't quite that. It is great tasting coffee that leaves a nice chocolate aftertaste. The aroma of this coffee is rich and smells delicious. Having a few of these on hand always makes me excited to have a keurig.

4. Wolfgang Puck Breakfast in Bed

Delicious aroma and taste, the Breakfast in Bed coffee is a great morning blend. This has a great roast and body. Give it a try.

5. Brooklyn Beans Variety Pack

Brooklyn Beans is new to the k-cup scene but has taken Amazon by storm moving up into their top five best selling k-cups. For a variety pack this is my recommended pick for 55 cents / count each.

100% Arabica coffee beans fill each cup. The Variety Pack includes 40 k-cups which includes: light, medium, and dark-roast blends: Breakfast Blend, Boardwalk Blend, Brooklyn Bridge, Colombian, Cyclone, Donut Shop, Fugheddaboutit, French Roast, and more including some flavored brews like Oh Fudge, and Vanilla Skyline.

6. Green Mountain Naturals® Hot Apple Cider

Something unexpected, hot apple cider makes an appearance on my list. One of the tastiest non-coffee choices you can make with your Keurig. This brand uses real fruit, no artificial flavors or preservatives. Within seconds, you get a warm, comforting mug of cider with a hint of brown sugar and a touch of cinnamon flavor.

7. Gloria Jean's Hazelnut Coffee

I'm not a huge fan of flavored coffee, but I know several of you must be. Hazelnut as a flavor works pretty well with coffee. The Gloria Jean's brand strikes a great balance of Arabica style coffee and Hazelnut. If you are going to go with a flavored coffee this is my pick.

8. Green Mountain Coffee Wild Mountain Blueberry

If you want to try a wild flavor, check out Green Mountain's blueberry coffee. It sounds a little bit weird, but it's actually pretty good. It tastes like coffee with a blueberry muffin aftertaste.

K-cups come in all flavors!

You can make much more than coffee with your keurig!

Here are some k-cups to try to the brands I recommend:

Hot chocolate - Grove Square Hot Cocoa

Cappuccino - Grove Square Cappuccino

Chai Tea - Celestial Seasonings India Spice Chai Tea

Green Tea - Celestial Seasonings Green Tea

Lemonade - Green Mountain Naturals Lemonade

Iced Tea - Celestial Perfect Iced Tea Southern Sweet

You can even get Starbuck's French Roast k-cups if you want that Starbucks punch in your coffee.

Make your own K-cups

If you want to save money, or experiment with your own blend of freshly ground coffee beans, you can actually buy refillable K-cups. With a refillable K-cup you help save the environment too by avoiding all the plastic k-cups you throw away. I use the Eko-brew Refillable K-cup. You open the top, pour in the coffee, close the lid, and run it through your Keurig system. Clean up is as easy as opening the lid and rinsing it with your faucet.

The refillable k-cup makes a great gift as well to anyone you know with a Kuerig. There's a 20% off coupon available at Amazon you can click to clip if you are interested.

Maintaining your Keurig

Descaling your Keurig will extend the life of your machine and ensure consistent quality. Keurig itself has provided a video about the descaling process. You should descale your machine about three times a year based on the hardness of your water.

This is a nice list, I don't think I've tried any of these yet! Which do you think is the strongest? I'm currently hooked on Deathwish Coffee K-Cups ( http://www.deathwishcoffee.com ) and Love It Black 100% Kona K-Cups ( https://www.loveitblack.com ). I drink the Deathwish for its insane strength, and the Kona for its smooth delivery and excellent taste! Have you tried those? Where would you rate them on your list? I also think after researching the ones you recommended, that they are priced very similarly.

If you want good coffee, almost any other way is preferable to using a Keurig. In a recent test by Consumers Report, K-cup coffee came in dead last for taste. I guess for most it's all about convenience (or laziness) but for goodness sake at least use a refillable K-cup and do your part to cut down on the tons of K-cup waste currently polluting the environment. Glad you mentioned the Eko-brew. Myself, I'm too big a coffee fan to cut corners and drink bland coffee.

I love my Keurig. I'm a huge fan of a local in house roasting coffee place so the first thing I got with my Keurig was a refillable K-cup, admittedly. I also really like Trader Joe's K-cups, mostly because they still have a slow drip taste to them (the bottom is shorter, and doesn't get pierced by the bottom needle, so the coffee just drips though the cloth filter!).

Thanks for the tips! Great Hub..I actually have the Keurig Vue and am so sad they are discontinuing it! It is so much richer and more European than the standard Keurig..they told me the Vue cups will be around another three years..so I guess I have time to figure it out! Voting up and now following you!

Great hub. I've gotten my Keurig 2.0 Single Serve for Christmas. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I prefer the light roast flavored coffees. I love the teas, the chai tea latte, and hot cocoa. I do agree with you on the hot apple cider. I haven't tried all of the flavors yet you've listed. Great idea to make your own. I might...someday.

Big fan of the Keurih coffee machine - my wife got one and we can't get enough of coffee at least once every day - sometimes twice!

I just got a Keurig for Christmas! This was so helpful! I feel very overwhelmed by the choices and I am reluctant to buy a whole pack because I don't know if it will be good or not. Thanks for the input!

Thanks Janis and Peggy for reading. Caribou is delicious Janis! The old fashioned way still works Peggy =) Nothing quite like fresh coffee at the press of a button when you are just waking up though.

I have only used them in other settings. At home we still brew our coffee the old fashioned way. Nice to know that there are environmentally friendly K-cups.

I came by to celebrate your milestone by reading a hub. This is an informative and well-done hub, toptendeals. I still like my coffee maker but use the k-cup when I'm out or where it's being used. I'm glad to hear about the Caribou medium roast flavor. I love Caribou. I just recently heard about the make your own k-cups which is great. Nice job, voted up and useful.

great choices of the best k-cups i haven't tried all of them but i'll have to be on the lookout for them. The donut shop one is by far the best! I also liked that you mention the reusable k-cups, my one problem with keurig is the amount of garbage it produces due to the one time use k-cups! But it truly has revolutionized the way we consume coffee! great hub and thanks for the #happy2years comment!
