Chocolate Berry Lollipop Smoothie

I like to create my own recipes using whatever I happen to have around the house. This is one of my successes.

This smoothie was not only delicious, but beautiful, too!

The Creation of this Masterpiece

I created this recipe on a "weight day." That's the day I follow up my morning yoga practice with by some exercises using weights, kicks, medicine ball, and jump rope. I love weight days, almost as much as I love my hula-hoop and belly dance days. When I'm done with the work out, I feel like I've done something!

Of course, afterward, I can feel a bit peckish, but don't really want a heavy meal. I find that a healthy post-workout snack helps me stay on track for the day. Smoothies are a great way to meet that need. I like to create my own. Sometimes, they are good; sometimes they're not so good. Luckily, this one is particularly delicious. It has a flavor that reminds me of a certain lollipop that I loved when I was growing up.

The Skinny on This Smoothie

This recipe makes two servings, but it really depends on how much you want to drink. I tend to drink 1/2 for breakfast and the other 1/2 for a mid-afternoon snack. I have not figured out the nutritional breakdown, but for the most part all the ingredients are healthy. I like monkfruit as a sugar alternative, but of course any sweetener will work. I hope you like it!

  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 2 large leaves kale, chopped
  • 1/2 cup lettuce, chopped
  • 1/4 block firm tofu, cut into quarters
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 medium banana, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • 1 teaspoon monkfruit (optional)

  1. Place all of the ingredients into a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into glasses and enjoy!
