Refreshing Limeade Slushy for a Hot Day
Diet Limeade is my favorite drink from Sonic or Chick-fil-A, so I've come up with two home versions—one made with fresh lime juice and the other with frozen limeade. These both taste great, almost like a limeade slushy, and they're perfect for the hot summer days we get here in Texas. I love to top it with fresh lime zest and maybe a maraschino cherry.
Cook Time
Prep time | Cook time | Ready in | Yields |
---|---|---|---|
5 min | 5 min | 10 min | 1 gallon (16 servings of 8 ounces each) |
Ingredients
- 1 can frozen limeade
- 1 liter diet limeade soda
- 6 cups crushed ice
- 1 teaspoon lime zest (optional)
- 16 marachino cherries (optional)
Instructions
- Put the crushed ice in a blender. Add the frozen limeade and 3 cups water. Blend until well mixed. Pour mixture into a pitcher.
- Add diet limeade soda. Pour into drink glasses. Top with lime zest and add a maraschino cherry if desired.
A Great, Customizable Party Beverage
See photo directions for my no-calorie limeade made with fresh limes. For a party, I don't always have time to squeeze limes, so I use bottled juice or frozen limeade. Since some of my friends don't like artificial sweeteners, I made the recipe for the party drink so that you can make the drink with diet or regular soda. You can pour the slushy mixture into individual cups and then pour on whichever soda someone wants.
This easy recipe is my go-to party beverage. It is inexpensive, unique, and has lots of variations. I love to garnish it with a maraschino cherry. Try it using other frozen juices like strawberry, berry, or lemonade, too!

Other Diet Drinks
Of course, after I'd had some success with my diet limeade, I had to come up with some variations. Lemons and oranges also make great drinks and just like with the limeade, you can use frozen juice if you don't have any fresh. I grow mint in my garden and found that if you put some fresh mint into the pitcher for a while before serving, it adds a subtle and refreshing flavor. When we visited China, we had some wonderful flower teas, which made me realize that I had edible flowers in my garden that I could use to decorate drinks too: violas, pansies, roses, and chamomile. Of course, following my favorite Sonic drink, I like adding some maraschino cherries, too!
Another idea I had from a friend is to have mint, cherries, citrus slices, and flowers as options for people to add to their glasses. Then offer several pitchers with an assortment of drinks like diet limeade, tea, and water. Easy and elegant!
