Great Shots for St. Patrick's Day

Here are some of my favorite St. Paddy's day shooters as well as some that I haven't had the chance to try yet. Let me know your favorites in the comments section below!

1. Green With Envy Shot

You'll like this shot if you prefer more tropical-tasting drinks.

  • 1 part coconut rum
  • 1 part blue curacao
  • 1 oz pineapple juice

Shake with ice and strain into a shot glass.

2. The Irish Frog

Now this shot is a little harder because you have to layer it –

  • ¾ oz Midori
  • ¾ oz Baileys

Both of these liqueurs have to be chilled beforehand. Pour the Midori into the shot glass and carefully float the Baileys on top.

3. Irish Flag Shooter

This classic layered shot for St Patrick’s Day is a somewhat acquired taste, but boy does it look the part.

  • 1 part crème de menthe
  • 1 part Baileys
  • 1 part Grand Marnier

Pour the crème de menthe into a shot glass first, float the Baileys on top and let it settle before floating the Grand Marnier on top.

How to Layer Shots

Layering shots can be done using the back of a spoon, but the main thing is controlling the flow of the alcohol. Make sure that you have pourers on the bottles to get a nice even flow. When using the back of a spoon, hold it just above the alcohol that you wish to layer the next shot onto and pour slowly. Practice plenty of times and you’ll get the knack for it which will really impress your friends. Personally, I like to use a dime spoon, which is also called a bar spoon.

Sometimes the whole idea of layering shots seems just too hard. This could be because of the sheer volume of people at your party or it could be because you’re also drinking yourself! Whatever the reason there are some great shots that are designed to be shaken instead of layered.

4. Irish Cowboy

  • 1 part Baileys
  • 1 part bourbon

Pour both into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a shot glass to enjoy.

5. Irish Frost

  • 1 shot Baileys
  • splash of coconut cream
  • splash of half and half

Pop all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain and serve in a shot glass.

6. Dirty Irish Whiskey

  • 1 part Baileys
  • 1 part Irish whiskey

Pour both into a mixing glass with ice and stir, then strain into a shot glass to serve.

7. After 8

This is one of my favorite shots to include for St Patrick’s Day since it contains Baileys as well as the greenness factor with crème de menthe.

  • 1 part Baileys
  • 1 part Kahlua
  • 1 part green crème de menthe

Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a shot glass to enjoy — this shooter is one of my all time favorites.

8. Gold Emerald Shooter

This shot is very beautiful and has a surprising taste — the bright green color with the gold flecks is sure to be a winner.

  • 1 part vodka
  • 1 part Goldschlager
  • 1 part Midori

Shake with ice and strain into a shot glass.

9. Irish Hammer

With a name like that how could you resist trying this drink for the holiday? This smooth shot from MixThatDrink.com combines the flavors of whiskey, Irish Mist, and Irish Cream.

  • 1 part Jack Daniels
  • 1 part Irish Mist
  • 1 part Irish cream

Shake all ingredients with ice and pour into a shot glass.

10. Shamrock Shooter

  • 2 oz Midori
  • ½ oz Irish whiskey
  • ½ oz Baileys

Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into a shot glass to serve. This is a delicious shooter to get the party started and I’m not even a great fan of whiskey!

11. Nutty Irishman

  • 1 part Bailey's Irish Cream
  • 1 part Frangelico Hazelnut Liqueur
  • 1 part cream

Shake with ice and strain into a shot glass.

12. Baby Guinness

  • 2 1/2 oz Kahlua
  • 1/2 oz Baileys Irish Cream

Pour the Kahlua first, almost filling the shot glass. Then carefully layer the Baileys on top, making it look like the head of a beer.

13. The Dubliner

  • 1 part Irish whiskey
  • 1 part Irish Mist

Shake with ice and pour into a shot glass. Add a little whipped cream on top.

14. The Drunk Leprechaun

  • 1 part crème de menthe
  • 1 part green chartreuse
  • 1 part Irish whiskey
  • Dash bitters

Shake with ice and strain into a shot glass.

15. Chocolate Almond

This is a yummy layered shot that counts for St. Patrick's Day because of the Baileys.

  • 1/2 ounce amaretto liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce dark crème de cacao
  • 1/2 ounce Irish cream liqueur

Chill all the ingredients before using them. Layer them in this order: amaretto, dark crème de cacao, and Irish cream liqueur.

If you’d prefer not to be making shots constantly then what about mixing up some fantastic St Patrick’s Day Cocktails?
