I have a sizable tried-and-true cookie recipe file, but I am always eager to discover new ones. Who doesn't love cookies?

A Local Favorite

My husband and I have enjoyed visiting the small town of Rosenberg, Texas, several times and dined in several of their restaurants, including the Ol Railroad Cafe and Another Time Soda Fountain. Both places have a unique charm and are worthy of a visit.

On one occasion, when I was donating some of my original linoleum cut art prints for a fundraiser at the Rosenberg Art League, we got a tip from resident artists about having lunch at the Bull Creek Cafe and Grill. Some of them told us that it was their favorite restaurant.

It is always fun to know where the locals like to dine, so we decided to make that our next stop. We were happy that we had taken their advice!

Bull Creek Cafe

This charming casual restaurant has been in operation since 2012 and is a favorite place to dine for many people. It, plus the other restaurants where we have enjoyed lunch, is among the top listings of Rosenberg restaurants on Trip Advisor.

According to the website Restaurant Guru, Bull Creek Cafe and Grill is rated as follows (as of 2022):

  • #1 of 27 steak restaurants
  • #2 of 197 restaurants
  • #3 of 61 cafes
  • #4 of 48 BBQs

Those are some stellar statistics! The many framed awards on the restaurant walls for Reader's Choice on Fort Bend Favorites for Favorite Steakhouse verify that people often enjoy eating steaks here.

Since much of what they make is homemade, this is not a quick in-and-out experience. Enjoying some time to converse while awaiting one's food choice is a nice change from the day-to-day hustle and bustle. Having the friendly waitstaff bring the homestyle meals to the table is worth the wait.

The scent of the accompanying yeast rolls brings back memories of the yeast rolls and loaves of bread made by my grandmother and mother. There is nothing quite like that aromatic, heavenly scent in a kitchen!

“Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains; another, a moonlit beach; a third, a family dinner of pot roast and sweet potatoes during a myrtle-mad August in a Midwestern town. Smells detonate softly in our memory like poignant land mines hidden under the weedy mass of years. Hit a tripwire of smell and memories explode all at once. A complex vision leaps out of the undergrowth.”

Family-Friendly Place

Much thought went into the creation of this family-friendly restaurant. It is cute and casual. The walls have collections of art ranging from old beer signs, flags, chalkboards, and words such as the following:

  • Enter As Strangers - Leave As Friends
  • Good Food * Good Friends * Good Times
  • Eat Drink BE MERRY!

As you can see from the photos below from our first visit, my husband chose to eat the chicken fried steak, and I enjoyed the grilled chicken breast with the savory sundried tomato pesto. He chose french fries as his side dish, and I had the fried okra. We had the side salad with a choice of homemade dressing and that delectable yeast roll.

Pricing is moderate, and portions are generous. Menu items include starters, soups, salads, wraps, sandwiches, grilled meats, seafood, tacos, a selection of side dishes, and desserts. There is something to suit almost anyone's taste. A bull theme continues with the bar name being the Toro Bar. You can check out the full menu by clicking on the official site under Sources at the bottom of this page.
