Over a pound of tender, thinly sliced ribeye steak, caramelized onions, and Cooper Sharp American cheese on a seeded artisan hoagie roll. It sounds simple—but nobody does it quite like Curly's Comfort Food in Levittown, Pennnsylvania.
This shop is a cheesesteak mecca for foodies and cheesesteak connoisseurs, located just minutes from the hustle and bustle of the City of Brotherly Love. It's the only place I know where football fans throw snowballs at Santa Claus, lol.
On a recent trip to the Levittown area, I remembered a YouTube video I saw recently by @jljupiter. JL is a local YouTube food vlogger and he highly rated Curly's in a recent post. The cheesesteak he reviewed looked incredible, and I just had to stop in while I was in the neighborhood.
After about a 30-minute drive from the center of Philadelphia, I arrived at Curly's on a Sunday at around noon. It wasn't too crowded but I knew that could change quickly. I ordered a cheesesteak, fries, and a locally made ice-cold root beer from Kutztown Soda Works. Nice touch with the artisan soda choices!
After a short wait, my order was ready. When I picked it up, I thought that they must have made a mistake; not only was there a cheesesteak in the bag but a small pizza box as well. I asked the counter staff if perhaps they had made a mistake as I didn't order a pizza. The reply was, "those are the French fries—we serve them in a pizza box." OMG. I was stoked. I've never seen anything like it!
As I opened and unwrapped everything at my table, I was impressed with how big the portions were. Not only was the cheesesteak huge, but the wonderful aroma of grilled, hand-sliced ribeye, and caramelized onions also filled the dining area as the steam rose from this monstrous sandwich. I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into it.
With enough fries to feed a family of four and a cheesesteak that I could barely lift, I attempted to tackle this enormous meal on my own.

Love at First Bite
My first taste of this cheesesteak art piece was absolute bliss. Tender ribbons of steak, melted cheese, and caramelized onions nearly melted in my mouth. The sesame seed-covered roll was soft on the inside, crispy outside with just the right amount of chew and was sturdy enough to hold all that delicious goodness without it all ripping through the bottom and onto your fresh white sneakers.
This was way more food than I could ever think of eating in one sitting. I polished off half of the sandwich and French fries before waving the white flag of surrender. The fries were something I'd never encountered before. Not only were they served in a pizza box but they were slightly batter-dipped and fried to a super crispy state that stayed warm throughout my meal. Some sort of black magic at work here at Curly's.
The pizza box came in handy as it was the perfect vessel to transport the leftovers home for dinner and made cleaning up for the staff that much easier. I checked out the menu before I left and learned that not only do they serve cheesesteaks but they also offer wings, brisket, and macaroni & cheese with tons of different, delicious toppings to choose from. They even offer their very own famous wing sauce, complete with a picture of Curly's proprietor right on the bottle.
I must say, my visit here was excellent and I definitely want to return to try some of the other taste-tempting offerings. As for now, it's time for a nap. Whew. A great big thank you to Curly's for a wonderful lunch, I hope to see you soon!
