What Is Pizza Jawn?

What started as a hobby for owners David and Ana Lee evolved into a mobile pizza kitchen making its rounds at all the local food festivals along with catering private events for a host of lucky customers.

After years of practice and picking the brains of some of the best pizzaiolos in the area, Pizza Jawn finally planted its roots down on Main Street in the cliffside Philly suburb of Manayunk. You can find this awesome jawn just outside of the Philadelphia city limits. Bringing a true taste of high-quality artisan pizza to a neighborhood already rich in culinary history, Pizza Jawn fits in perfectly.

First Impressions

You can't miss the colorful Pizza Jawn storefront on Main Street in Manayunk. With its ever-changing designs, you never know what you'll get. I immediately noticed that the interior was light and airy with plenty of natural light provided by the enormous floor-to-ceiling windows. A wall of pizza boxes stands as a testament to all of the delicious pizzas sold at this funky joint. The hardwood floors looked fantastic and made for easy cleaning for the staff.

The counter staff here are friendly and eager to take your order with years of practice definitely evident. Metered street parking is available with extra parking provided by Manayunk Parking about a block away.

The restaurant offers two distinct pizza styles. The classic round "neo-neopolitan" style and the 16" x 16" square grandma pie with a unique sesame seed crust. Toppings include pepperoni, sausage, peppers and onions, Mike's hot honey, and many more. A unique offering is the Jawn Special, a white pie with pepperoni, jalapeno, Mike's hot honey, ricotta, and garlic. Mmmmm.

My Unbiased Opinion

I chose to be pretty basic on this visit. I selected the pepperoni pizza with fresh basil. My order was ready in about 20 minutes and I rushed out the door to enjoy my pizza as hot and fresh as possible. After a brisk walk to my car, I barely had the willpower left to stop myself from ripping the top off of the box! My first bite was pizza heaven.

A flavorful, crisp, and chewy crust that only comes from aging the dough for at least 48 hours. The sauce was fantastic, not too sweet, and topped with high-quality mozzarella and the kind of pepperoni that cups when baked in Pizza Jawn's high-temperature oven. This was pizza science perfection. The perfect amount of char and freshly picked basil combined to make this the type of pizza that you crave daily.

I'll definitely be back, I couldn't be more satisfied. I honestly rate their pepperoni pizza 8.9 pizza boxes out of 10. I can't wait to try the Jawn Special and I definitely can't wait to drizzle some of that Mike's hot honey over something, anything!
