Can a Snack Be Both Healthy and Satisfying?

If you are looking for something to snack on that won't make you feel guilty, you may want to give these baked green peas a try.

I found these while searching for healthy snacks on Amazon, but I think I have seen them at the grocery store, too. According to the label, they are lightly salted, gluten free, and "powered by plant protein."

I think these make are a pretty nice treat. Usually I am not a big fan of peas, though I do like them when they're in the pod. And that's what these snacks are. It looks like they took whole pods and baked them in the oven.

Let's take a look at some of the other qualities these little gems have to offer.


"Plant-Powered Protein"

The blurb on their package (see photo above) sounds pretty good, eh? The verbiage definitely makes me want to investigate further.

After trying this snack, I can confirm that it is crunchy and full of flavor. You do get a hint of the pea flavor in them, but even if you don't care for peas, you will like these.

There's nothing artificial, and it's baked—not fried. (A note on the package indicates that it is baked alongside milk products, so if you have any lactose concerns, be aware.)

Otherwise, the label is pretty much right on.


Nutrition Information

One of the concerns you probably have—or at least should have—is that when you snack you need to be aware of what you are eating. Remember, you eat to live and not live to eat. For those of us who are addicted to munching in between meals, snacking is a guilty pleasure.

Donuts, candy, and chips are some of the more popular choices people make when it comes snacking.


Because they taste good, of course! On the other hand, many of these snacks are loaded with extra calories, sugars, fat, and salt.

Look and Taste

They look pretty keen as well. They have a nice green shape, and they are light and airy.

When you bite into them, they crunch up. And the inside is probably not what you would expect. Everything is consistent and even. They don't taste like pods filled with small pebbles.

You will appreciate the taste, and the hint of salt is just enough. And believe it or not, they have just a hint of sweetness.

I think these would make a great appetizer for parties, or a good snack to take along to work to enjoy on your break. They'd probably also make a good side dish if you don't feel like bringing out the vegetable steamer.

I highly recommend these. They're portable and fresh tasting. If you're craving potato chips, these would make a great substitute.
