One Bite Frozen Pizza from Barstool Sports

I tend to keep a couple of frozen pizzas on hand in the freezer for a quick, lazy weeknight meal option. I've enjoyed a large number of the offerings available at my local Walmart and was excited to finally find the One Bite pizza from Barstool Sports.

As a big fan of Dave Portnoy's pizza reviews on YouTube, I was intrigued when he made the announcement and subsequent review of his very own frozen pizza offering several months ago. If you've seen his review of the One Bite pizza, you know he rated this pizza a 10 (I've included his review below). If you know anything about Dave, you know he doesn't just throw around the perfect score like that. I had to see what all the hype was about.

Seeing a frozen pizza rated so highly definitely piqued my interest—though I must admit, I was feeling a little skeptical. (He did rate Totino's Pizza Bites a 10 as well.) I began stalking the frozen food aisles of my local Walmart every time I shopped there. Finally, three months after Dave's announcement, I spied the One Bite frozen pizza nestled amongst the Digiorno and Freshetta pizzas in the freezer case. I was ecstatic!

One Bite pizza is currently offered in four styles: pepperoni, supreme, three meat, and five cheese. All four styles state they are stone-baked. Ringing in at $6.48 or less per pizza at Walmart, or online at, the price is comparable to other frozen pies of this type. The packaging is smart and contains the traditional reds, yellows, and oranges that marketing specialists claim to psychologically awaken the taste buds and stimulate your appetite.

As a pizza purist, I decided to check out the five cheese pizza for my take on this new offering from Barstool Sports. I wanted to taste the pizza without any toppings in order to better assess the different components without being overwhelmed with the taste of spicy pepperoni, meats, or veggies.

My Overall Opinion

After a quick visual inspection, I noticed that the bottom of the pizza already had a nice brown crust that was visually appealing straight from the package. The cheese and sauce looked fresh and appeared to be of high quality.

My first impression of the cooked pizza when it came out of the oven was that it looked and smelled pretty good. The outer edges of the pizza were browned and crispy. The cook time seemed appropriate as the pizza was completely cooked through with a wonderfully charred bottom.

My first bite was disappointing. In my opinion, the pizza lacked flavor. Tasting king of bland, I was definitely missing the basic pizza herbs and seasonings one would typically expect. The addition of some basil, garlic, and oregano may have helped. The crust at the edges definitely had a crispy texture which didn't translate well to the rest of the pizza. The cheese had the taste of good quality mozzarella but I wasn't able to detect much of the other four kinds of cheese. The majority of the pizza had a chewy texture that wasn't bad at all. Aside from being bland, the bottom crust had an odor and taste of charring. This char presumably comes from the factory where the pizza was baked on a stone surface.

Overall, the One Bite Five Cheese Stone Baked Crust frozen pizza wasn't terrible. This pizza is definitely a contender in the frozen pizza market as far as frozen pizza goes. With good marketing and packaging, Barstool has produced a slightly above-average frozen pizza that will satisfy your pizza craving in about 13 minutes.
