Frozen Grapes Are the Perfect Treat
If you've never had frozen grapes before, you are missing out on a healthy, delicious, and refreshing summertime treat. As a sweet snack or low-calorie dessert, frozen grapes are a perfect complement to your summer menus. Easy to make and store, why not have some on hand for your next BBQ, or simply for yourself? They are also great in place of ice cubes in drinks!
But frozen grapes aren't just for summertime. You can enjoy this easy-to-make and refreshing treat year-round. Keep some in your freezer for your next dinner party, make some for a healthy holiday treat, or have some on hand all the time for hungry kids.
It's not often you find a satisfying treat that's delicious and healthy, but once you make frozen grapes once, you'll find they're just what you've been looking for!
Read on for directions on how to make frozen grapes and more tips...
How to Choose Great Grapes
Starting with good grapes is the key to making this simple recipe a success. Without good-quality grapes, they may end up mushy or not taste good frozen, so this is an important step.
You can use any variety to make frozen grapes. Start with your own favorite variety, or try different kinds. Mix it up!
First, look at the surroundings while you are shopping. Are the grapes refrigerated? Are they wrapped? Those are two good indicators for grapes that have been well taken care of between the farmer and your local grocery store.
Next, examine the texture. You want grapes that are firmly attached to the stem and have smooth skin. Avoid grapes that are mushy or discolored.
Finally, look at the color of the grapes. Green grapes should have a yellow-green color. Red grapes should be reddish-purple. Blue grapes should have a very dark blue-purple color.
Once you've picked out your grapes, you're ready for the next step.
How to Make Frozen Grapes
Once you have selected your grapes and brought them home, the process is so easy!
- Wash your grapes thoroughly with fresh running water.
- Pick the grapes off the stems and lay them on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Make sure the grapes are not touching.
- Let the grapes dry completely. Be patient!
- Carefully move the grapes to your freezer and allow them to freeze. This should only take a couple of hours. After they are frozen, I find it is easiest to move them to a plastic freezer bag for storage.
Variation: Sugar-Dusted Frozen Grapes
To make sugar-dusted frozen grapes, roll the grapes in sugar after washing and before they dry. This is a great dessert choice, especially served in martini glasses! I've made these for bridal showers, birthday parties, and even one New Year's Eve party, and they are always a hit.
Mini Martini Glasses for Fancy Frozen Grapes
This set of mini martini glasses is the perfect size for a handful of frozen grapes. Just prepare them ahead of time in your freezer and at the end of your dinner party or during your bridal shower, bring them out for a fancy looking yet easy-as-pie treat! With four of them in the set, why not buy a few sets to cover everyone at your next party? They also make great take-home favors for baby showers or weddings!
Yum, yum, who's ready for some frozen grapes?

I have never liked frozen fruits, so I was hesitant to even check out this page. However, I may try freezing some plump grapes, as this sounds very good. I don't think I'll add any sugar, though. Grapes have more than enough natural sugar. Thanks for the idea!

I have my hand up! I first had frozen grapes back in the 60's when, for some odd reason we had an unusually large amount of them, so Mom decided to experiment and freeze them. You are so right, they a a delicious summer treat,

He loves grapes so I am sure he will love frozen grapes. I saw where this lens is in the Summer Sunshine Award Contest for Charity and I would love to feature it on Summer Sunshine Award Nominees with your charity, Grameen Foundation.
