What to Serve With Chili Con Carne

Chili is a versatile dish that can be served with many other foods. You can serve this simple dish with any or all of the following sides:

1. Rice

Use plain rice or even a packet of flavored rice. Personally I like to use a plain Basmati rice. I love and use it for everything. Also, any long grain rice or Patna rice will work. Just use what you have on hand!

2. Tortilla Chips

Turn this into a party bowl with tortilla chips. Pour your chili into a shallow dish and slide the tortilla chips in around the edges. If you place the bowl on a plate, you can also put a pile of chips around the base of the bowl. Add this to your list of easy party dip ideas!

3. Garlic Bread

I love eating chili with garlic bread. You can either make your own or buy a frozen one to reheat.

4. Hot Homemade Bread

If you've got some homemade bread, a big chunk of that pairs perfectly with chili. I often make a lovely herby bread, which is just a standard loaf with some oregano, marjoram, and thyme mixed in the dough.

5. French Fries/Chips/Potato Wedges

It doesn't matter if you call them French fries or chips—the bottom line is that chili con carne is a great accompaniment to a portion of chips! Potato wedges are also a great idea to have as a side dish.

6. Lettuce and Other Veggies

If you're on a diet, chili con carne can be a great low-calorie option if you serve it on a bed of crispy lettuce. You can even throw in some mixed peppers and grated carrots. The natural shape of a good lettuce leaf makes it an ideal container.

Once you've gone through the process of adding the ingredients, it takes 20-25 minutes to cook. From beginning to end it could be up to 1 hour before it's on your plate!
