Review of Crazy Cuizine Orange Chicken
According to online sources, orange chicken is not Chinese, but actually American. Closely related to the dish known as General Tso, both creations are deviations of a sweet and sour chicken, which is authentic.
Wikipedia says "Chef Andy Kao claims to have developed the original Chinese-American orange chicken recipe at a Panda Express in Hawaii in 1987." Most people who have been to shopping malls probably have seen a Panda Express and perhaps have tried one of their rice bowls.
Whether or not the food reflects the diet found in the Far East is probably besides the point. The sweet taste of orange and the crispy battered chicken are a delicious combination and one of the many ways to enjoy fried chicken.

The chicken is precooked and flash frozen. This doesn't mean you can thaw it out and eat it however.
The two best ways to prepare this are to either cook it in the oven or to fry it up on the stove. The box recommends that you bake it.
I personally prefer the frying method. With a little bit of vegetable oil, you can heat it in a skillet in about twenty minutes. You have to make sure to turn it frequently because otherwise it might get too overcooked on one side and even burn.
Cooking it well shouldn't be a problem though, because you are going to cover it in a sauce.
And actually if you look at how orange chicken is prepared in a restaurant, it appears to be more than golden brown.
It probably comes down to preference. However, one of the down sides I discovered is that some of the pieces are large and some are very small. The small ones tend to cook very quickly and the larger ones take a little longer.
This is one of the reasons why you have to constantly watch the food while it is on the stove top. Frying though, gives it an extra crisp which you cannot obtain from the oven.
Do you think restaurant food is better than store-bought frozen food?

Tastes Like a Restaurant's Version
The Crazy Cuizine recipe is actually quite good and comparable to what you might enjoy in a restaurant. What helps make it better is that you can adjust the seasoning by adding to it (crushed red pepper, brown sugar etc.) or change the amount of sauce you add. You can do a light coverage or put it in the bowl as a dipping sauce. (Not a very authentic practice, but then again, orange chicken is actually an American dish).
The quantity of the food is another favorable aspect as well. With a couple of boxes, you can probably feed a family of four. One box can easily feed two people. You may even have some left over for lunch the next day!
Cooking this at home also gives you the option of sides - do you want French Fries? A baked potato? The standard rice? Add some vegetables and you have a full meal that is delicious and healthy.
Pair With Rice, Veggies, or Your Choice of Side Dish
Overall this was very good.
You are given pieces of white meat chicken - not pressed or processed. This is obvious in the taste and the texture.
I like mine a little crispy which is why I fried mine up. I would probably recommend getting it brown as possible all over, perhaps to the point where it is dark brown and looks close to being overdone. When you add the sauce, it comes out absolutely delicious. When you cook it well, the crisp exterior is maintained.
I think it is much better than a restaurant and since I usually cook for myself, I had plenty left over. In fact, once it has set for a day, it taste even better.
I think this is probably a good option for orange chicken fans. I've tried some of the other brands out there, Marie Callender's, InnovAsian and PF Chang's. This is one of the better ones out there.
It's easy to prepare and lives up to its promise of quality. It's fairly healthy, although like most frozen food, there are things you might need to be aware of. Almost anything in moderation though, can't be that bad.
For someone who is looking for restaurant type food, at an affordable choice, I would recommend Crazy Cuizine.
