Creating Easy and Healthy Dips

Let's face it, most of us would love the convenience of making something that takes virtually no time whatsoever. In this article, I will outline some ideas to get you started on creating your own dips and dressings. If you are on a diet—or you just want something convenient and easy that still tastes great—this article is bound to help you. Maybe you'll be inspired to come up with your own ideas, too! Be creative and enjoy.

Instead of Chips...

If you don't want to eat potato chips or tortilla chips, consider carrot "chips" instead. This is a great alternative to chips and still has that crunch and flavor that you want for snack time!

Sour Cream and Onion Dip

On gameday or on any holiday, sour cream and onion dip is a must. But have you ever heard of making this dip . . . without the sour cream? If you use non-fat Greek yogurt instead of sour cream, it is virtually guilt free; you can splurge on as much of it as you want!

All you need is two cups of non-fat Greek yogurt and an onion dip packet. Mix together and chill for at least 30 mins, or serve as is! It tastes great and is a healthy alternative to regular sour cream and onion dip. If you don't want to eat chips, consider getting carrot "chips" instead. Ranch Dressing

Whether you want to use it as a dip or a dressing for vegetables, ranch dressing is amazing. Usually it is high in calories and you can only have two tablespoons for one serving, which, as we all know, is not enough to satisfy our tastes. Just like with the sour cream and onion dip, all you need is two cups of non-fat Greek yogurt and a ranch dip packet. Use it for carrots and celery or on sandwiches. If you want to use it as a dressing, you might want to add something like olive oil just to water it down a little and give it that same consistency as ranch dressing. Whatever you choose to do, you will be bound to enjoy this simple and easy dip and dressing idea!

Homemade Salad Dressing

I have found that a little vegetable or olive oil mixed with red wine vinegar and garlic salt is the perfect combo of tart and salty goodness that you can enjoy on a fresh salad.

Vinaigrette Salad Dressing

Are you looking for a virtually guilt-free salad dressing? I have found that a little vegetable or olive oil mixed with red wine vinegar and garlic salt is the perfect combo of tart and salty goodness that you can enjoy on a fresh salad. If you don't want to use garlic salt, you could always season it with some other spices to give it some real flavor. You can use more of the dressing on your salad as well since it is a guilt-free dressing.

Start with one part vegetable oil and one part red wine vinegar. Add a tablespoon or two of garlic salt and shake it up. (Get some kind of container where you can shake it. Using an old salad dressing bottle that you have washed and cleaned would be ideal, but you can also use Tupperware or some other kind of container.) If you feel you need more oil, salt or vinegar, add as needed until the dressing is to your liking, and enjoy!

When making your own salad dressing, consider using vegetable oil or olive oil to balance out the tangy flavor from the red wine vinegar.

Experiment With Flavors

Think about other spices or herbs you would like to add to your dips. Be creative. It is all up to you and your personal taste.

Helpful Tips

Maybe you want to try some other dip ideas that I didn't list above. Consider going to the grocery store to the salad dressing aisle and checking out what other kinds of dip packets they have. Hidden Valley, for instance, makes a fiesta ranch flavored packet that tastes great paired with non-fat Greek yogurt. Think about some other spices or herbs you would like to add to your dips, and be creative. It is all up to you and your personal taste, but hopefully these simple and easy ideas for dips gave you some insight into how to prep some awesome dips for your next party or get-together!
