California's Oldest Running Restaurant Has Quite the Impressive History

When do you think of the 1800s, what comes to mind? Is it black and white photos of people wearing outdated clothing? Perhaps the use of kids in factories due to the lack of child labor laws. Or maybe you think of the California Gold Rush. The California Gold Rush began in 1848 and ended in 1857. No one alive today was alive during that time. However, there are buildings from that era that still stand today.

In a TikTok video by content creator @sanfranciscohistory, we see footage of the Oldest Restaurant in California. The place is called Tadich Grill, and it opened in 1849. This restaurant must be protected at all costs. The owners went to great lengths to keep it open during the pandemic.

Wow! We can’t believe they’ve only had 11 chefs since it opened in 1849. That’s impressive for any restaurant. They also serve over 400 customers daily, which is a healthy number of guests. Let’s see if the TikTok community is impressed. @Lubepizza revealed, “It’s a treasure. Also, the owners paid workers out of their savings through the pandemic while it remained closed.” @Jane Wedel747 replied, “Hopefully, San Francisco will protect it.” @fLRDLZ said, “Next to my office. It’s hella dark inside. Lol.” @Lee Berg disclosed, “My grandparents had their rehearsal dinner in 1936.” @jennRN remarked, “I love, love, The Tadich.” @kakuretamori wrote, “Thanks for reminding me of this wonderful place.”

It sounds like this place is rich with history and memories. If you’re in the San Francisco area, consider visiting this gem. To stay updated on all things San Francisco visit @sanfranciscohistory’s TikTok channel. You never know what you’ll learn.
