Yum, pizza night!

Yum, pizza night!

Nothing beats a pizza night. Recently, my son expressed interest in making pizza at home. My husband used to do that with his siblings all the time growing up, and I thought it sounded like a lot of fun.

This recipe is simple and perfect, made easier with a bread machine. It even makes enough dough for both a pizza and cheesy, garlic breadsticks. Dinner is served!

For the dough:

  • 2 2/3 cups water
  • 8 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons yellow cornmeal
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons yeast

For the toppings:

  • 14 ounces pizza sauce (I love Prego)
  • 2 to 3 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups pepperoni

  1. Place the kneading paddle into your bread machine pan. Combine the dough ingredients into your pan according to the manufacturer's instructions. Mine calls for liquids first, then dry ingredients, and yeast last.
  2. Carefully lock the pan into the bread machine. Set for "dough" and let the machine work its magic.
  3. Once the dough is finished, place it on a generously floured surface.
  4. Cut the dough in half. Set one half aside to make breadsticks, or save in a Ziplock bag for next time.
  5. Begin rolling out the other half of the dough, shaping it into a circle with your hands as you go. You want your circle to be about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Sprinkle a little cornmeal on your pizza pan. Place your circular-shaped dough on the pan and adjust the shape if necessary.
  7. Spread 3/4 of the jar of pizza sauce on the dough. Spread as evenly as possible.
  8. Sprinkle cheese on top and then layer a good amount of pepperoni.
  9. Spread the rest of the sauce on top of the pizza. Finish with another layer of cheese and pepperoni.
  10. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown.
  11. Serve with a side of cheesy garlic breadsticks. Enjoy!
