Vegetarian Sloppy Joe Sandwich
Who doesn't like sloppy joes? It's the quintessential classic comfort food from days past. Fresh, fatty ground beef, simmered with a tangy, smoky, slightly spicy tomato-based sauce, piled high on a soft roll. From school lunches to quick and easy weeknight meals, the sloppy joe has been a staple in American kitchens and institutions since the 1930s.
I took the liberty of trying to elevate this sandwich and also make it somewhat healthier. I used Gardein plant-based crumbles, sweet Vidalia onions, green onion, and a gourmet version of manwich. Instead of the traditional soft hamburger buns commonly used, I opted for some nice pita bread to stuff with this delicious mixture.

With a few simple ingredients, you can make a healthier version of the classic sloppy joe.
