Haldi Doodh Recipe

Golden milk, or haldi doodh as it is called in lndia, is a sweetened hot drink prepared by blending ground turmeric with milk. You can use grated fresh turmeric, instead.

Golden milk is also called turmeric milk. It is a traditional Ayurvedic beverage that provides several health-promoting benefits due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Other spices like ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, etc., can be added to this recipe to increase its health-promoting effects.

  • 1 cup / 200 ml milk
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp sugar or honey


  1. In a pot, bring milk and sugar to boil over high heat. Note: If you are using honey instead of sugar, add it in step 3.
  2. As soon as the milk comes to a boil, reduce heat to low and add the turmeric powder. Stir and mix well till turmeric dissolves.
  3. Simmer for 2 minutes; then transfer to a cup and serve immediately. Note: If you are adding honey, let the milk cool down till it's just lukewarm, then mix in the honey. Honey should neither be heated nor added to very hot liquids.
